The San Diego Zoo is considered the number one zoo in the world. It is situated in the Balboa Park which is an urban cultural park of the San Diego, the major city in California, United States. San Diego Zoo was opened in 1916 after Panama-California Exposition, it is consisted of an area of 100 acres and it is housing more than 3,700 animals of almost 650 subspecies and species. San Diego Zoo is operated privately by the nonprofit "Zoological Society of San Diego".

The Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is regarded as the second most famous zoo in the world. It is situated at 3701 south 10th street in Omaha, the largest city of Nebraska, United States. Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is authorized by the "Association of Zoos and Aquariums" and it is a member of the "World Association of Zoos and Aquariums". This zoo is originally started as a Riverview Park Zoo in 1894 and at present it is housing more than 17,000 animals of over 962 species.

Saint Louis Zoo is also authorized by the "Association of Zoos and Aquariums". It is opened in 1904 and till now it is housing over 19,000 animals of more than 655 species.

It is located at the northern edge of Regent's Park just on the boundary line between the borough of Camden and the City of Westminster. London Zoo is regarded as the oldest scientific zoo in the world and was used as a place of collection for scientific study. This zoo was opened on 27 April 1828 in London and at present it houses more than 19,178 animals of a collection of over 806 species.

The Berlin Zoological Garden is regarded as the fifth most famous zoo in the world. It is in fact situated in the Berlin's most famous inner-city park Tiergarten and considered the most famous and the oldest zoo in Germany. Berlin Zoological Garden is opened in 1844 and it covers the area of more than 86 acres, it houses now more than 20,500 animals of a collection of almost 1,500 species. It is also considered the most visited zoo and in 2013, it had over three million visitors.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium come on the number six in the list of the most famous zoo in the world. It is located along the banks of the O'Shaughnessy Reservoir in Powell which is a city of Ohio, United States. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was opened in 1927 and at present it has become a home to over 7,000 animals of a collection of more than 800 species. In 2012, this zoo was ranked number one zoo in the world, its annual visitors are more than 2.3 million visitors.

The Bronx Zoo is considered the seventh most famous zoo in the world. It is basically located at the Bronx Park of the Bronx which is a famous borough of the New York City. Bronx Zoo is included among the largest and famous metropolitan zoos in the world and it is also authorized by the "Association of Zoos and Aquariums", this zoo covers an area of almost 265 acres. Bronx zoo was opened on 08 November 1899 and at present it is housing more than 4,000 animals of 650 species.

The Chester Zoo comes on the number eight in the list of the most famous zoo in the world. It is located at Upton by Chester which is a civil parish and a ceremonial county of 'Cheshire' in England. Chester Zoo is basically a zoological garden which was opened by George Mottersheadin 1931, it covers an area of more than 125 acres and included in the largest zoos of England. Chester Zoo is housing now more than 12,500 animals of over 422 different species, it was named in 2015 as the best zoo in the England.

The National Zoological Gardens of South Africa, commonly known as "The Pretoria Zoo", comes on the number nine in the list of most famous zoos in the world. It is situated in Pretoria, South Africa and considered a national zoo of South Africa, it was founded on 21 October 1899 by J. W. B. Gunning. The Pretoria Zoo covers an area of 210 acres and at present it is housing more than 9,000 animals of over 700 different species, it is recorded that more than 600,000 visitors come to visit it per year.

The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is also included in the list of the most famous zoos in the world. It is located in Fort Wayne which is a city of Indiana, United States and it was also authorized by the "Association of Zoos and Aquariums". Fort Wayne Children's Zoo was founded on 03 July 1965 and it covers an area of 40 acres, at present, there is housing more than 1,000 animals of over 200 different species and it continuously ranks among the well-known and the top zoos in the England.
