1-Chile- 1960
In Chile on 22 may 1960 at 19:11:14 pm this earthquake came with the magnitude of record 9.5 rector scale. This was the largest earthquake in the world. In the Valdivia-Puerto Mont area, there was severe damage due to shaking in this area. This port was destroyed in the resultant Tsunami that caused approximately $550m worth of damage in Chile. In this earthquake around 1650 killed, 3000 injured and 200,000 homeless in southern Chile. This earthquake also affected in Philippine and Japan as well.
2-Prince William Sound, Alaska- 1964
In the Gulf of Alaska on 28 march 1964 at 5:36 pm local time this earthquake came with the magnitude of 9.2 rector scale. The quaking last about 4 minutes. There was also heavy damage due to landslides in Anchorage. Across south-central Alaska, collapsing structures and tsunamis resulting from this earthquake caused 143 deaths. This earthquake was conveyed by vertical displacement an area about 520,000 sq. meters. This shock generated a tsunami that destroyed most of the town in this state.
3-Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami
In the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia on 26 December 2004 at 00:58:53 UTC on Sunday this earthquake came with the magnitude of 9.1 rector scale. The tsunami was recorded about worldwide on the tide gauges in the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The earthquake was caused by the reduction of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of landmasses by Indian ocean that killing over 230,000 people around fourteen(14) countries.
4-Tohuku Earthquake and Tsunami, Japan
In the great east, Japan on 11 march 2011 at 14:46 JST the earthquake was the magnitude of 9.03 occurred on the coast of Japan. At least, 15703 people killed, 4647 missing and 5314 injured and most of the buildings, roads and many other things destroyed due to this earthquake. The majority of the causalities occurred in Iwate, Miyangi and Fakushima. The total economic loss in japan was approximately 309 billion dollar. This earthquake far surpassed another post 1900 plate boundary thrust-fault earthquakes in southern Japan Trench.
5-Kamchatka-1952
In Kamchatka 4 November 1952 at 16:58:26 UTC earthquake with the magnitude of 9.0 in the volcanic Russian peninsula. But it was the Hawaiian Islands in which the property damage from these waves was near about $800,000 to $1000,000. These waves destroyed no. of houses to collide, destroyed piers and moved road payment etc. No human casualties were recorded.
6-Offshore Maule, Chile
On 27 February 2010 at 3:34 pm local time the earthquake occurred off the coast of central Chile with the magnitude of 8.8 rector scale. In this earthquake there was at least 523 people killed, 24 missing, 12000 injured and no of houses, hospitals, other buildings and roads destroyed. At least 1.8 million people affected in Araucania. It was felt strongly in the 6 Chilean regions.
7-Ecuador-Colombia Earthquake
In 1906 the Ecuador-Colombia at 15:36 UTC earthquake occurred with the magnitude of 8.8 and triggered a destructive tsunami that caused at least 500 causalities. This tsunami spread along the coast of Central America and even San Francisco and Japan. To the west in Hawaii Rivers suddenly drained about 12 hours after the first shocks. This earthquake is likely to be a result of thrust-faulting.
8-Rat Islands, Alaska
In Rat Islands Alaska on 4 February 1965, the earthquake occurred at 05:01 UTC with a magnitude of 8.7 and triggered off the tsunami of over 10 m on Shemya Island. Due to the tsunami flooding caused $10,000 worth of damage. The earthquake was recorded on both Attu and Shemya Islands in the form of cracks in Islands.
9-Assam-Tibet
On 15 August 1950, Assam-Tibet at 14:09 UTC a heavy earthquake came with the magnitude of 8.6 that destroyed a lot of things. In this earthquake at least 780 people killed, thousands of injured and also destroying many buildings. There was also severe damage was also experienced in Assam, India and the vicinity. About 70 villages destroyed in this earthquake. The quake was felt as far away as Calcutta. This quake was followed by severe flooding after the first tremors a natural dam on Subansiri River.
10-Kashmir Earthquake
On 8 October 2005, in Kashmir earthquake occurred with the magnitude of 7.6 at 08:50:39 am. This earthquake also affected countries in the surrounding region like Afghanistan, Tajikistan etc. More than 70% causalities were estimated in Muzaffarabad. Approximately 19000 children died in this earthquake. More than 500,000 families affected by this earthquake. While in Islamabad the Mar gala towers collapsed and killed many of the people. There were many secondary earthquakes in the region that is known as aftershocks.
