1-American mammoth Donkey

The American mammoth donkey, commonly known as "mammoth jack" or "American mammoth" is considered the most famous breed of donkey. It is basically a landrace of "North American donkey" that is descended from multiple donkey breeds such as Poitou donkey, Maltese donkey, Catalan donkey and many others which are imported to the United States. The male American mammoth donkey must be of 56 inches and female must be of 54 inches.

2-Poitou Donkey 

The Poitou donkey, commonly known as "Poitou ass" or "Poitevin donkey" is also regarded as the second most famous breed of donkey. It is basically that breed of the donkey which is originated in the "Poitou region" of France. Poitou donkey is included among the largest breeds of donkey and due to its large size, it was selected for the production of the working mules, it is also known for its distinctive coat, hanging in ungroomed and long cords.

3-Zamorano-Leones 

The Zamorano-Leones, commonly known as "Carbajalina", "Garanon Leones" comes on the number three in the list of the most famous breeds of donkey. It is basically a large domestic donkey breed which is originated in the provinces of Leon and Zamora, in north-western Spain and in the Castillay Leon's autonomous community. The Zamorano-Leones donkey found in Zamora from the fifteenth century and in 1940 it received official recognition.

4-Asinara Donkey

The Asinara donkey, commonly known as "Asino dell'Asinara" is considered the fourth most famous breed of donkey in the world. This feral donkey breed is asically originated in the island of Asinara, which is near the Sardinia, Italy's north-west coast, almost all population of this breed of donkey is albinistic except a small number of grey coloured donkeys.Asinara donkey is included among the eight autochthonous breeds of the donkey of limited distribution.

The Provence donkey, commonly known as "Ane de berger" or "Ane des Saintes" is also regarded as the fifth most famous breed of donkey in the world. It is basically a domestic breed of donkey, which is originated in the"Provence" the south-eastern France but now it is distributed through central and also in the "Rhone-Alpes region". Provence donkey was used for hundreds of years as a pack animal by the transhumant shepherds.

6-Grand Noir du Berry

The Grand Noir du Berry, commonly known as "Ane grand noir du Berry" comes on the number six in the list of the most famous breeds of the donkey in the world. It is basically a domestic breed of the donkey which is originated in the central and northern France's historic region "Berry", it is also found in Cher and Inde's neighbouring areas. Grand Noir du Berry was used in the past both for barge haulage and also for the agricultural work.

The Asno de las Encartaciones, commonly known as "Encartaciones" or "Burro de Las" is considered the seventh most famous breed of donkey in the world. It is basically a small domestic breed of donkey which is originated in the western part of the Basque Country's autonomous community and in the north-east Spain. Asno de las Encartaciones is the only small breed of the donkey that resembles the "Gascon donkey", it is also critically endangered donkey breed.

8-Amiatina

The Amiatina, commonly known as "Asino dell'Amiata" is also regarded as the eighth most famous breed of donkey in the world. This breed of the donkey is basically originated in "Tuscany" the central Italy and it is especially associated with "Monte Amiata" in the provinces of "Grosseto" and "Siena". Amiatina donkey breed is included among the eight autochthonous breeds of donkey of limited distribution which are recognised by the Italian ministry of agriculture and forestry.

9-Pyrenean Donkey

The Pyrenean donkey, commonly known as "Ane des Pyrenees" comes on the number nine in the list of the most famous breeds of the donkey in the world. It is basically a domestic breed of donkey which is found in the France's large area of south-western and also found in almost whole regions of Midi Pyrenees, Aquitaine and Languedoc Roussillon. Pyrenean donkey breed unites two different donkey breeds, the short Gascon breed and the taller Catalan breed.

10-Bourbonnais Donkey

The Bourbonnais Donkey, commonly known as "Ane bourbonnais" is is also regarded as the tenth most famous breed of donkey in the world. It is basically a domestic breed of the donkey which is originated in the historic region of "Bourbonnais", it is also associated with the central France's region "Auvergne" and the Allier's modern department. Bourbonnais Donkey was used in the past as a pack animal to pull light gigs and for hauling barges.
